Monolithos Castle: A sunset to remember for ever!

Sunset from Monolithos Castle

Monolithos Castle is located on the West coast of Rhodes island and is packed with history and magnificent, picturesque views. Monolithos is a complex word from ”monos lithos” meaning ”a single rock”. This is because the castle is standing on a 235 metres hill and overlooks the same named village, the coast line and the Aegean sea.

The castle was protecting the west coast from the pirates’ invasions, and even though many times there were attempts to be breached, this was never achieved. All because of its height and its strategic locations!
Therefore, you can understand that it takes a bit of walking to reach the top. It is not difficult, rocky steps make the route easier and even young children can complete this task. Many people in front of you will stop, not to catch a breath, but to take photos of the spectacular views.
We suggest you visit Monolithos during the sunset, the colours in the sky are something you don’t want to miss and will forever cherish in your heart and memories!
If you see a castle under fog, you must walk there to meet the extraordinary dreams! -Mehmet Murat ildan
