Typical Greek Dishes

(While reading the text below, please make sure you have something to eat next to you… You are about to get very hungry in a few minutes!)

Below are some of the most typical dishes that you can try while being on holidays in Rhodes!

In the morning or as a snack, pop into a bakery and grab a slice of spinach pie (spanakopita) or cheese pie (tiropita), made with crispy filo pastry. A great start for a dynamic day!

As for lunch or dinner, there are many traditional dishes that someone has to try while visiting Greece. The most vamous is ‘’moussaka’’. Layers of aubergine, mince, potatoes and bechamel sauce. For those who adore pasta, you can try pastitsio, our Greek version of pasta bake!

Delicious even during the summer heat, two popular stews are kleftiko (slow-roasted lamb) and stifado (rabbit or beef cooked with baby onions). Seasonal vegetables also take stage in dishes such as yemista (peppers, tomatoes, aubergine or courgette stuffed with minced meat and herbs).

And of course, no meal is complete without a fresh, zesty salad, also known as ‘’horiatiki’’! It has sweet, ripen tomatoes, cucumber, onions, peppers, black olives, feta cheese, dressed with virgin olive oil and oregano. Delicious!

If you prefer fast food, then what else to choose from except the famous ‘’souvlaki’’! Either the plain version with succulent chunks of chicken or pork, cooked on a skewer or wrapped up in a pita bread with tomatoes, chips, onions and …tzatziki! Vegetarians can ask for a veggie option, without the meat, just overloaded with tasty crispy potatoes.

Whatever you choose, one thing is certain: Greek food is something that you will never forget!
