The famous Prasonisi is located just 28 km and 30 minutes away from Rita Mare Villas. It is a tiny “island” on the southwestern tip of Rhodes and the favourite choice for those who like to swim, but also play with the wind and waves at the same time!
There is a strip of sand that separates the Carpathian Sea in two and joins Prasonisi with the rest of the island. In winter, this strip is totally covered by the waves, so Prasonisi actually becomes an island. Over the summer, the sea level gets lower and it becomes a peninsula which you can visit on foot!
World-wide meeting point
Prasonisi is definitely an ideal meeting point for all those who adore windsurf or kitesurf. With two bays, it has a stormy but also a calm sea as well! Due to the different wave behaviour, the windsurfers have given the area two names: “the wave” and “the flat”. In the “wave” side, the waves are usually a height of 1-3 meters but on the “flat” side, the sea is much more calmer, ideal for swimmers, beginner windsurfers and for free style surfing.
Between June and September, warm sea currents take place at the Aegean Sea. Therefore you will have the ideal conditions to take a ride, the way you like, because the sea will have waves for sure!
Not just for surfing…
Prasonisi isn’t a destination just for surfers! The impressive beach is long and sandy, with few shops where you can buy beach essentials or enjoy lunch/dinner. Each year the area hosts many sports and music festivals, so you can spend the whole day there. And as soon as you get tired, our villas are just a quick drive away!
